Do you want to experience the life of the Cretan village, immerse yourself in the greenery and freshness of the nearby gorge, and enjoy the regional dishes and wine from the local vineyard? Away from the main tourist attractions of Crete.
It will be an unforgettable day, full of sensory impressions, not only visual, but also taste.
We will start with a Greek coffee in Maria’s family tavern. Here we will tell you about the extraordinary history and tradition of this place. Then we will follow a rural road among olive and plane trees, with a view to Lefka Ori mountains (White Mountains). We reach the entrance to the ravine. The Gorge of St. Anthony is a hidden, green treasure of Crete, full of old plane trees and oaks, water cascades and caves. This is a historical place where people for millennia have prayed for their harvest and abundance. The length and difficulty level of hike in the ravine depends on the weather, and the amount of water in the river. After the trip, we will invite you to the local winery, where we will taste wines from the local Cretan grapes varieties. We will finish our trip in Patsos family tavern, with a tradition dating back to 1933. Here, Maria, a wonderful old lady aged 79, will give us traditional dishes made of vegetables and meat from her farm.
In the summer, it is possible to walk through the entire gorge till the lake, negotiating boulders and water rapids, which in some places are secured with ropes and wooden ladders. Please let us know if you wish to walk whole path to the lake. In that case walk is longer, more difficult and adventurous.
