Climb with us to Soros summit, proudly dominating area of Patsos. Wandering in the wild landscape will let you relax your mind and boost your body. Enjoy the beauty of unspoilt nature, far away from the main tourist attractions of Crete.
We will start with a Greek coffee in Maria’s family tavern in Patsos. Here we will tell you about the extraordinary history and tradition of this place. Then we will start the mountain walk among fields and pastures with a view to the dam and Patsos and Prassies ravines. In the distance we will see the blue of the Cretan Sea. We will pass a stone pasture hut (mitato) and we will soon admire the views of Gious Kampos plateau, Kedros and Ida mountains, where the highest peak of Crete – Psiloritis 2456m asl is situated.
Finally, we will reach the place where the path becomes unclear and disappears among thorny, dwarf scrubs and rocks. We will head for the summit, negotiating boulders and cliffs, and finally the Soros summit, with a stone chapel, will emerge before us. Here we will rest, admiring 360 views of the Lefka Ori mountains on the west, Ida on the east, and both seas surrounding Crete from the north (Cretan Sea) and from the south (Libyan Sea).
After rest, we will return to Patsos village. We will finish our trip in Patsos family tavern, with a tradition dating back to 1933. Here, Maria, a wonderful old lady aged 79, will give us traditional dishes made of vegetables and meat from her farm.
